About the University

The Karnataka State Open University was established on 1st June 1996 vide Karnataka Govt, Notification No ED 1UOV95 dated 12th February 1996-KSOU Act 1992, keeping view the educational needs of our country in general and the Karnataka State in particular. It is the Eighth Open University in the country. The University has a long and rich experience in the field of Distance Education as the erstwhile Institute of Correspondence Course and Continuing Education of University of Mysore. It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as well as Commonwealth Universities Association. It is also a recognized member- University of Distance Education Council (DEC), Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Objectives of Karnataka State Open University:

1. Democratizing Higher Education by taking it to the doorsteps of the learners.
2. Providing access to high quality education to all those who seek it, irrespective of age, region or formal qualifications.
3. Offering need-based academic Programmes by giving professional and vocational orientation to the courses.
4. Promoting and developing distance education in India.
5. Relaxed entry regulations.
6. Providing opportunities to study according to one's own pace and convenience.
7. Flexibility in choosing the combination of courses from a wide range of disciplines.
8. To help candidates to select the study centers, preferably of their own choice.

Collaborative Arrangement: The KSOU has launched the B.Sc. Animation Degree Program in collaboration with ToonSkool Pvt.Ltd., Bangalore, which is responsible for total program delivery as per the norms of KSOU.

B.Sc Animation (3 Year Program)

The ToonSkool – Advanced Animation Academy as a co –representative body of ToonSkool Pvt.Ltd. runs a full time BSc in Animation degree course of total six semesters affiliated to Karnataka state Open University Mysore, Karnataka  at various study centers. 

A recent NASSCOM report has estimated that the country will need more than lakh skilled professionals by 2008. ToonSkool – Advanced Animation Academy aims to fill this need with its fulltime degree programme. This course equips its graduates with the skills and experience required to in the industry.

 ToonSkool – Advanced Animation Academy provides extensive training in traditional classical skills and modern digital technology. The degree programme emhasises on fundamentals like life drawing, perspectives and more specialized skills like character design and development.

 All our study centers are equipped with world class computer stations and drawing studios with industry standard light tables respectively. Classroom teaching by experienced professionals is coupled with career and life skills workshops in order to strike a balance between theory and practical training.

The 3 Year B.Sc Animation course comprises script to screen processes. The program structure is academically and professionally streamlined to put student on a definite growth path through the semesters. The course is holistic in nature and covers the topics listed below.
